English musician Vic Flick, known for playing the iconic guitar riff on the “James Bond Theme,” has passed away at 87 after battling Alzheimer’s disease.
Flick’s son announced his father’s death on Facebook, suggesting donations to St. Jude’s and Alzheimer’s charities in lieu of flowers. Flick’s guitar work on the Bond theme, recorded in 1962, utilized a unique setup with a vintage guitar and amplifier, creating the mysterious and powerful sound.
Despite the song’s enduring popularity, Flick received only a one-time payment of six pounds for his contribution. Throughout his career, Flick also collaborated with renowned artists like Eric Clapton and the Beatles, earning a lifetime achievement award from the National Guitar Museum in 2013.
