Rock legend Sammy Hagar is set to perform at Saratoga Performing Arts Center and hopes to meet the officer who inspired his hit song “I Can’t Drive 55” by giving him a VIP treatment backstage.

The speeding ticket he received in Upstate New York in 1983 fueled his career and led to the creation of the iconic song. Hagar recalls the incident that occurred during a family trip and how it influenced his music.

The song became a hit and propelled Hagar to superstardom, eventually leading to his tenure with Van Halen.
